May Offshore Fishing Report

Published June 5th, 2023 by MSC Fishing Charters

Offshore fishing has been a thrill for serious anglers in May, with swordfish and tunas being the standout catch on our boat. Daytime swordfishing in particular requires patience, skill, and persistence, and it seems that these efforts are paying off most of the times.

Good news for tuna enthusiasts too, as they have been abundant offshore this season. Yellowfin tuna and blackfin tuna have been the most common catches, but sometimes a bigeye tuna can make an appearance too. These fish are known for their speed and strength, and they put up a good fight. Anglers have been using a mix of live and artificial baits to attract them.

As snapper season kicks off on June 1st, the beginning of the season has been nothing short of impressive. We had some impressive fish weighing over 20 lbs! Red snappe in all sizes have all been caught in good numbers. Live/dead bait and jigs have been some of the successful baits used to catch these fish.

The weather has recently been mostly favorable for offshore fishing, with calm seas and moderate to light winds. This has allowed us to travel further offshore to where the trophy fish reside. We always check the weather forecast before heading offshore as conditions can change quickly.

Overall, May and June have been great months for offshore fishing. Daytime Swordfish and tunas have kept fishermen’s adrenaline pumping, and the beginning of the snapper season has been impressive as well. With the calm weather, now is the perfect time to head offshore and chase those trophy fish.
